Basile le Chien is one of those rare things: A comic for small children with a point-of-view. The concept is that one can't be too small, too clumsy or too inadequate. Life may not be a garden of roses but it's full of wonders and opportunities, and the more so if one's a bit of a freak.
Our funny animal anti-hero rarely succeeds in achieving what he sets out to do, is not half as smart as his friends, is cursed by bad luck, and on top of that his bad temper hinders him being even cute or likeable. But still he goes on. No failure is catastrophic enough, no punishment is restraining enough, no flaw is limiting enough to hold him from pushing on to try and try again. And he gets results: unexpected, weird and hilarious, but life is never boring when he's around. He can't be broken. Basile: The revenge of the not-picturebook child.
